Babes and Youngcare

December 7 is an important day on the calendar for Babes Members this year. The annual Babes Lunch is an event not to be missed! December 8 is an important day for Youngcare - the opening of the first apartments at Jindalee!

I have just returned from a visit to the soon-to-be-completed Youngcare apartments at Jindalee, along with fellow Babes, Andree Anderson, Simone Sakzewski and Kelly Cleary. What an awesome sight! We were there at the invitation of Kate Bartlett from Youngcare (also a Babes member!) and were privileged to be welcomed by Youngcare Directors, David Conry and Nick Bonifant.

My words will not do justice to the thought that has gone in to developing the apartments. Every detail is important and has been included, from the low-set windows to the amazing track across the ceiling of each unit that will pick up a resident from bed and deliver her/him to a chair in the lounge room; from the spa-room where pure indulgence is the mantra to the family/common areas where friends can gather for a BBQ or to watch TV on the big screens donated by Harvey Norman. It's a place where anyone and everyone would want to live!

Given that over 6,300 young people are residing in aged care nursing homes, the most challenging and difficult task still lies ahead ... the resident registration process has begun and you can find out more at www.youngcare.com.au.

HANNAH AND LUKE - FROM ROCK TO CAR

Don't forget to keep up-to-date with Hannah and Luke, two amazing kids from the Gold Coast who are looking to acquire a car for Youngcare. They are moving from strength to strength swapping one item for another based on the principle of "One Red Paperclip".

By swapping Oscar, their pet rock, for items of larger value they hope to reach their ultimate goal of obtaining a retro-fitted car for young people with high care needs.

Check out their Trade Tree at www.hannahluke.com to see where they're at. Suncorp is the most recent supporter! You can read all about the story behind their idea and the input from the team at Youngcare. Perhaps you've even seen them across all the media outlets - their PR team has been very successful!

Babes, perhaps this is an area where individually you could do some "trading up" and at the same time be involved in something very exciting in support of Youngcare.

OPTUSWORLD KEDRON STREET FESTIVAL

Sunday 14 October 2007 11am - 4pm Turner Rd Kedron

Join in the fun of the Fair! The inaugural event in 2005 was a resounding success: free rides and entertainment, market stalls, raffles and plenty of food and beverage all culminated in a fun filled day. A highlight for many was "Kedron Idol" where the depth of talent was inspiring, and at times ... frightening!

Proceeds from this year's festival will benefit Youngcare.

Sponsors include Optusworld, Kedron Wavell Medi-Centre, Northside Chronicle, Vantage Financial, Rochelle Painting; EKO Ink Architects, Tiland Pty Ltd, Molly's House, Padua College and Stafford Physio.

Headlining the entertainment this year will be Nina May and Repeat Offender.

If you would like to be involved or would like more information please contact Anne Barklimore 0410 637 642.

Finally, the Babes team is always on the lookout for fabulous prizes for the Youngcare raffle at the Foster's Miss-Behaving events and also for the annual Babes Lunch. If you are able to assist with a donation we would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support of Youngcare. Together we can make a difference.
