Editor's letter

Dear Babes,

Brisbane's not a tidy town, it's a tiny town.

That's not to say that this city has a chronic littering problem or overgrown footpaths.

It's just that one of the fundamental points of difference Brisbane has over many other Australian cities is that there are barely a couple of degrees of separation between each of us. Kevin Spacey and his six degrees ... eat your heart out.

For those of us who have called Brisbane home for most of our professional careers, this is a fact that is of enormous benefit in challenging business times. The only trap for young, (and old) punters is that in a city such as this, the imperative to do the right thing by people professionally is critical.

The phrase 'it's not what you know, it's who you know' holds a great deal of truth especially in uncertain times when trust is high on the list of priorities as people and companies aren't prepared to take big risks.

So now is the perfect time to grow your personal and company brands, to take the opportunity to grow your professional networks and ensure your savvy about what lies ahead.

The Babes Bites event in May was a great start to this as we all learnt how to get more out of our networks and delve into the ocean of social networking. I can now announce not only am on Linkedin but, in addition to Babes in Business, I have also entered the world of Twitter see http://www.twitter.com/BabesInBusiness, http://twitter.com/KristinDevitt and http://twitter.com/KDPRknows.

Networking and the world of business are forever changing and here at Babes in Business we are dedicated to helping our members be on top of their game so we will continue the Babes Bites Forums throughout the year. Covering topics that relate to Babes these events will connect with experts and provide an opportunity to engage and discuss key issues.

To continue the networking and the trend of great Babes events for 2009 we are so pleased then, to be bringing to you, our members, the always popular midyear Foster's Miss-Behaving at the Port Office on Friday June 26.

You may well notice our calendar this year is growing as we strive to deliver the very best for our members. There are an exciting movie screenings coming up as well as special Babes VIP events, offers and invites.

It's all part of being in our network so make sure Babes in Business membership is a priority for you and your staff so you can reap the rewards and the exclusive invitations.

No doubt in this tiny town I will be bumping in to you all soon, let's just hope it's at one of our fabulous upcoming events.

Cheers
Kristin x
