Making decisions about your children and your property during and after separation is one of the toughest tasks most people ever face.
Inexpensive expert help is now available for people in the throes of separation to assist them to make the right decisions for themselves and their families during this stressful time.
Experienced family law barrister, Pamela Sweetapple, is conducting a series of seminars in Brisbane for people anticipating or experiencing separation from their partners.
Ms Sweetapple said she saw the need for short seminars which would demystify the legal processes surrounding separation and divorce because inexpensive legal assistance could be difficult to obtain, and the cost of making the wrong decisions could be high, both financially and emotionally.
"The seminars will help separating and separated people to avoid common and costly mistakes, and decide if and when they need a lawyer at all," Ms Sweetapple said.
"Whether separated people are married or have been living in a de facto relationship, our seminars will provide them with easy-to-understand information about the current legal, social and emotional aspects of separation, and the opportunity to ask questions."
Ms Sweetapple said that with recent changes to the Family Law Act, there was increasing pressure on separated couples to share their children and sometimes heir property equally.
"Our seminars will help people to find solutions which suit their own situations, and not ones which are urged upon them by interested parties such as the Family Court and other government related agencies," she said.
The first seminars will be held at the Brisbane Workers' Community Centre at 2 Latrobe Terrace Paddington from 27 May 2008. They will run from 9.30am to 12 noon. Evening seminars will also be held on demand.
