Stretch your comfort zone
Have you ever been in the situation where a golden opportunity
dropped by your freshly pedicured feet, only to be snapped up by
someone else? Why did you hesitate? What kept you glued to the floor
unable to take that first step?
If you take a look around, people who seize opportunities display
a level of courage that most of us aspire towards. I'm sure you
know of people like that in your life. You know the ones, those
Babes who seem to be 'lucky' in their career, real estate or love.
However, it's not luck that gives them that special 'edge', it's
their ability to courageously and consistently stretch their comfort
zone.
The thing is, most of us spend too much of our time corralled within
the limits of our comfort zone. You know the type of corral I mean.
It's like a protective fence around our 'known world' that keeps
out anything unfamiliar, unusual or unknown. However, the very same
corral can keep us stuck in our outdated habits, irrelevant beliefs
or faded attitudes.
It's interesting to note, each one of our corrals is so different.
For some, their corral is all wobbly construction by lack of confidence
or low self esteem. While others, live within a rough and prickly
corral, composed of fears and doubts.
So, how can the rest of us Babes learn to step outside our corral,
stretch our thinking and experience what's on the other side?
Monthly tips
Here are some tips to flex your mental muscles and practice stretching
your comfort zone.
- Identify your outdated habits, irrelevant beliefs or faded attitudes.
Make time to address these or consult a professional for assistance.
- Practice taking a step back and observe yourself, others or
situations from a new perspective.
- Keep the bigger picture in mind instead of getting bogged down
in the details.
- Give things a go (as long as you are not harming yourself or
others). That means pursue a new direction, start that project
you've been talking about or mix with a new crowd.
- Study and learn from the people you admire and understand their
strategy for taking risks.
- Try a new approach in the way you think, speak or act towards
yourself and others.
