What WoMen want?

For the last two years I have focussed my business, f., on women and what they want in the boudoir. I have particularly been interested in their views on intimate products, the inclusion of intimate products within relationships and their general sexual awareness. This very interesting and valuable information has been gained through many conversations with experts, focus groups, get-togethers with women and, for a broader reach, through national surveys.

In a nutshell, younger girls know more than their mothers. Consider that scary or consider that progress. We all have our opinions.

Anyway, the point of this article is that last month the girls in the office at f. wanted to know what men think about intimate products. As a team, we constantly receive comments from men about our line of business - most of them predictable, for example 'your husband's a lucky man' or 'do you try all the products?'. Of course they receive the usual blank look and our usual response of 'that is the typical question we would expect from a man'. Moving on ...

We all had our pre-determined ideas of what they (men) would come back with, with our main consensus being that men find intimate products a threat. But I must say we were pleasantly surprised.

The survey, which was designed to uncover male attitudes to intimate accessories and female sexuality, was that 82% of participants said that they own and use an intimate product with their partner.

The interesting part of this statistic is that 23% of the intimate toys were introduced by the woman and 43% were a joint decision.

It also revealed that 50% of men would buy intimate accessories over traditional presents for their lovers this year.

Previously a taboo topic, it seems that Australia's attitude to intimate products has shifted. Today's intimate toys are increasingly made for women by women and display none of the phallic qualities of previous intimate accessories which intimidated most women and their partners. Hence men are no longer threatened.

So in summary, men are certainly becoming more encouraging and accepting of their partners needs in the bedroom with 87% admitting they felt comfortable talking to their partners about 'toys'.

However take note, there is still a lot that hasn't changed with the survey revealing that the typical male fantasy still exists with 38% of men still wanting to experience a ménage a trios with their partner.
