Have you ever watched the special features on your DVDs? Ever wondered what kind of hilarity goes on behind the scenes? Surprisingly, there are very few films that explore the industry itself ... clearly they don't want too many people knowing what they get up to!!

The few that do are really very droll. One such film is this month's recommended DVD, State and Main. A number of friends who saw this film really didn't get it ... it's a black comedy poking a bit of fun at some of the ridiculous stereotypes encountered in the movie biz. There's the screenwriter, trying to maintain the integrity of his script, the lead actor with a weakness for young ladies, a lead actress refusing to take her top off - even though it's in her contract and she's done it many times before - and the nous of the experienced director and fast talking producer will be called upon hourly. And stuck in the middle is the small town and its residents, who aren't as folksy as the crew assume them to be.
William H Macy and Philip Seymour Hoffman are, as ever, brilliant. And this pre-Carrie Bradshaw performance from SJP shows how that role broke her out of a particular casting pigeonhole. I highly recommend kicking back with some popcorn and ...
