Money matters - January 2010
Make this year a financial revolution!
Every year many make those new year's resolutions to cut back drinking, give up smoking, choose to lose weight, go on that holiday, go to the gym, pay off that credit card, cut out cake, and so on.

But like most we make the decision and then we lose interest. Maybe because we were already overloaded but whilst in chill out holiday mode, we made the decision that in the cold light of day is too hard. Or perhaps we really want to do that and make the statement after having a couple of dutch courage drinks, but then find it too hard to start!
With a gym you can get a personal trainer to drive you. With a holiday you can get a friend to go with you and they can help drive it through. When it comes to financial guidance, why not have someone who can help you so you don't feel like you have to carry the burden and make everything happen by yourself.
I always say, find someone you like, someone you trust, and someone you want to partner with for the long term. Financial change doesn't happen overnight, but as they say, it will happen (if you start)!
During 2009, I presented at various companies on the topic of "Why do I need a financial plan and how do I continue to sabotage my financial destiny". One of the biggest reasons is we don't start.
Most people say "I wish I started earlier", don't we all.
Starting early can really help compound the earnings for the future. However, most people have mortgages or other commitments that prevent them from starting early, but there are solutions. With the right advice women can change their financial destiny and hopefully achieve their goals much easier or earlier than planned.
As mentioned above, one of the biggest issues that affect our financial future is that we don't start. Another is that we don't know, what we don't know. We are not aware of the opportunities available to us. It is rare that after meeting with someone there isn't something that can be done to make a difference - big or small.
Deborah Visser says "I thought financial advice was only for the wealthy until I met you".
It's never too late to start growing your wealth and planning for your future. Yes, you may have some hiccups along the way, but the earlier you have a plan and a strategy in place, the better. As they say, you can always re-direct a moving ship, but you can never re-direct one that is still in the dock.
Women are intelligent, beautiful and diverse. Sometimes we are emotional but that is what makes us special, caring, endearing and gentle. We are also funny, clever and multi-taskers. Why not add another string to our bows and be financially independent as well. Make 2010 different this year by following through on the new year's resolution - first step, is to start!
