Babe Profile - February 2008

Adele Blair, Blair Lifestyle Management

Welcome to 2008 ... the year of the superwoman. If you're already working off a long list of New Year's Resolutions that would put the Prime Minster's "To Do" list to shame, you're not alone.

With the New Year's resolutions often comes an inherent desire to start the year by hitting the ground running, crossing every T and dotting every I, you will be the best friend, partner, mother and chef, with the cleanest kitchen in Queensland to boot& and all of this in a polished pair of Manolos and super-career too.

So, it's fitting that this year's first Babe in Profile is Adele Blair, founder and director of Blair Lifestyle Management.

Blair Lifestyle Management assists corporations and individuals with a range of tasks, including relocating homes and offices, de-cluttering homes, and more.

"Nothing is too big, or too small," Adele says. "We also offer an orientation service for our corporate clients who hire or relocate international staff. We assist the family once they arrive, particularly if they are coming from an extremely different location, such as Johannesburg."

Adele Blair

Blair Lifestyle launched in 2006. Coming back to Australia after several years abroad, Adele was living and working in Sydney and looking to branch out, with a new career that would combine her experience, natural ability, and what she loved doing.

"I saw an article in Vive Magazine about personal concierges - it stuck in my mind as something I could do, as it would utilise my skills and meant I continue doing what I love, but in a new avenue," she says.

Adele says her initial research found Brisbane did not have any registered personal concierge services. She then began speaking to similar companies in Sydney and Melbourne to seek their advice.

The concept has been popular in United States and United Kingdom for more than 20 years, but in forming her own company, Adele wanted to do something with a difference, and began considering the kinds of service she would feel confident delivering.

"Where some people may have a real focus on event planning, I am more comfortable within the realms of administration," she explains.

Adele's career has provided an incredible basis for Blair Lifestyle Management - it has taken her from a country town in New South Wales to London, where she went on to travel extensively, back to Sydney and finally Brisbane. She has worked with consultants acting for high profile clients such as George Michael, and has designed effective branding for campaigns and merchandise for David Jones, Sportsgirl, Country Road and Rockmans.

Adele laughs that she began working in milk distribution in Canberra, before being whisked to London where she worked with 4000 others at Ernst and Young. "At the time, I was so naïve that I just went with it and it was water of a ducks back."

"That was my first "real' job, and where I received the best advice I was ever given. I was 19, in London, working for a consultant in litigation at Ernst and Young - he told me "always try and preempt the need of your clients' and that's what I've done ever since."

Adele says the creation and burgeoning success of Blair Lifestyle Management can be attributed to her wide-ranging experience, but in part it must be due to her natural warmth an unflappable, calm nature& and her natural tendency to remain entirely organised.

"People often remark on how polite we remain and how calm we are under pressure, and I suppose it is due to the way we were brought up in the country."

"I am naturally very organised ... people think I'm spooky but I don't care, because I love it."

On weekends, Adele swims, cooks and spends time running "normal errands' and organising her house.

Adele's other love is travel, and she and her partner Andrew block out the month of October every second year in order to explore a new corner of the globe.

"I work from home, but once Andrew arrives home its pens down and we close the door and leave the office behind for the day."

Adele says some of the most exciting moments for Blair Lifestyle Management have been securing her first client and more recently, being approached by national credit card company wanting to create a rewards scheme for people to claim her services with points.

"I was also really chuffed to get a nomination for the Babes in Business Domestic Goddess Award and to be shortlisted," Adele says.
