Celebrate Olympic style

Unless you have been cut off from civilization you know the 2008 Olympics are upon us! Why not hold your own Official 2008 Olympic Party to celebrate all things bronze, silver and gold. Start with the invitations inviting everyone to the Olympic Village where there will be food, fun and entertainment.

If you want to make the party active ask guests to RSVP whether they would like to be a judge, referee, participant or spectator that way you will be able to better plan the event and work out how many people will be up for the synchronized dry swimming event. Use the Great Wall of China, Olympic medals or this years Fuwa mascots on your invitations. Another popular design is an Official Olympics Ticket invitation to really set the mood.

Ask your guests to wear a different colour t-shirt, flag, badge or come representing their nationality. If team sports are out why not make sure you have the party during an exciting Olympic event so everyone can cheer on their country of choice.

A great idea is to have face paints on hand so guests can really get patriotic as the evening hots up. Once a winner is chosen you can present medals which are easily bought or made, have them stand on a milk crate and take a photo for prosperity. If everyone is feeling energetic why not try the suitcase relay? Have 2 contestants stand in a line with a suitcase full of clothes. Start the buzzer and have them race to another line and open the suitcase and start putting everything on, they then race back to the original line to take everything off and place back in the suitcase and hand it to the next person until the last person in line finishes. How about an air guitar heat? Yoyo tricks are hilarious as well as tooth pick pole vaulting.

Decorate the entrance to the party with country flags, crepe paper streamers in Olympic colours, balloons and start and finish line markers or tape. Coloured hula hoops to represent the Olympic rings look fantastic as well. Tables can really set the mood with Olympic themed paper goods unless you want an Olympic sized clean up.

What else would you serve at the celebration but Chinese of course! Phone through the order early and have it delivered at the desired time. Or create pavilions (better known as food stations) from countries around the world. Serve egg rolls from China, falafel sandwiches from Israel, pizza from Italy, Greek salad from Greece, and hamburgers and hot dogs to represent the good ol' USA. Australian fare includes Aussie BBQ meats like Chicken and sausages, meat pies and lamingtons.

Have plenty of drinks on hand as Olympics are thirsty work. Why not print up some labels to stick on water bottles, beer and bottled wine as the Official Olympics beverage. And don't forget enjoy yourself on your medal winning hostess performance.

Next month let's talk Fathers Day!
